Private Clients and Families

The right basic protection safeguards you and your family against losses that can exceed your own assets. We ensure that the essentials are covered – and no more than necessary.

First things first: personal liability insurance

Anyone who causes damage to another person is, in principle, liable for it by law in an unlimited amount. Personal liability insurance examines whether a claim is justified, pays justified claims and rejects unjustified ones. It is therefore one of the policies that hardly any household should do without.

What matters is a sufficiently high sum insured and the details of the terms and conditions – for example the inclusion of damage to rented or borrowed items, of children below the age of tortious capacity or of voluntary work.

Household contents and residential buildings

Household contents insurance replaces your movable property in the event of fire, escape of water, storm, hail as well as burglary and vandalism. An accurate sum insured is important, as compensation can be reduced in the event of underinsurance.

For house and flat owners, residential buildings insurance is indispensable. Natural hazards such as flooding, heavy rain or landslides are not automatically included but must be agreed separately as a natural hazards component. Together with you, we examine whether this cover is appropriate and available for your property.

Legal expenses, motor vehicle and accident

Legal expenses insurance covers, to the agreed extent, lawyers', court and expert costs. It can be put together from components, for example for private, occupational, traffic and residential legal expenses cover. Waiting periods and exclusions must be observed; we explain these to you before conclusion.

Motor vehicle liability insurance is required by law; partial and fully comprehensive cover protect your own vehicle. Private accident insurance pays out in the event of permanent damage to health following an accident – including during leisure time, when statutory accident insurance generally does not apply.

Review regularly rather than conclude once

Circumstances change: marriage, the birth of a child, a move to a larger home, the purchase of a house or children moving out have a direct impact on the right insurance cover. A policy that was suitable years ago may today be insufficient or superfluous.

We therefore recommend going through your private protection together at sensible intervals. In doing so, we also check whether newer tariffs offer better terms and conditions and whether policies can be bundled so that you retain an overview.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need several liability policies as a family?

As a rule, no. A family tariff includes spouses or partners and children as long as the conditions are met. We check who is co-insured in the individual case.

How do I determine the right sum insured for household contents insurance?

Either by listing the replacement value of your household contents or by means of a flat rate per square metre of living space, which many insurers combine with a waiver of underinsurance. We discuss with you which approach suits you.

Is heavy rain automatically covered under residential buildings insurance?

No. Damage caused by flooding as a result of heavy rain falls under natural hazards insurance, which must be agreed additionally.

Can I keep my existing policies?

Yes. We review your existing policies and only recommend a switch if it brings you a demonstrable advantage.
